It’s Springtime! Have you checked your tires lately?

Congratulations, you’ve made it through another long Chicago winter! Now that it’s spring, you might want to check the condition of your tires. Winter weather takes a toll on those road warriors, especially if you didn’t put snow treads on at the beginning of the season. The drastic change in outside temperature that accompanies the change of seasons here, particularly from winter to spring and fall to winter, can play havoc with your tires’ air pressure. If they’re not all properly inflated you lose gas mileage, tread life and optimal driving performance, plus risk your and your passengers’ safety.

Fortunately, today’s vehicles are equipped with a tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS) that illuminates a low tire pressure ‘telltale’ (a telltale) in the instrument panel and will display one of the following messages) when one or more of your tires is significantly under-inflated. Accordingly, when this low tire pressure warning appears on your dashboard, you should check your tires as soon as possible and inflate them to the proper pressure.

In addition to seasonal temperature changes, tires (not to mention shocks) also have to deal with the many potholes of varying sizes and depths ready to inflict serious damage. So should you see that ominous low tire pressure warning light, don’t delay bringing in your vehicle to any of Berman Auto Group’s five area dealerships, where one of our service professionals will do a thorough examination and correct the problem. The problem could simply be low air pressure or something a little more serious, such as a leak caused by a nail or other sharp object.
Here’s Star Nissan’s Rey Segovia explaining tire patching and how his team looks for tire leaks using a bubble test.
If it’s determined that your tires need replacement, now is a great time to do it. You can save more than $60 on your purchase at Star Nissan, Mid City Nissan, Infiniti of Chicago or Infiniti of Merrillville and Mid City Subaru!
